Spectrum Center • Charlotte, NC
The Charlotte Hornets are an American professional basketball team based in Charlotte, North Carolina. The Hornets compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league's Eastern Conference Southeast Division. The team is largely owned by NBA legend Michael Jordan, who acquired a controlling interest in the team in 2010.
The Hornets were established in 1988 as an expansion team. After the 2001–02 season, the team relocated to New Orleans and became the New Orleans Hornets. The Charlotte franchise was subsequently reactivated as the Charlotte Bobcats in 2004. In 2013, the New Orleans team changed its name to the Pelicans, and in 2014, the Bobcats were rebranded as the Hornets, reclaiming the history and records of the 1988–2002 Hornets.
The team's colors are teal, purple, gray, and white. The Hornets play their home games at the Spectrum Center in uptown Charlotte.
