The New Orleans Pelicans are an American professional basketball team based in New Orleans. The Pelicans compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the Western Conference Southwest Division. The team plays its home games at the Smoothie King Center.

Originally established as the New Orleans Hornets in 2002, the team was renamed the Pelicans prior to the 2013-14 season. The name change was meant to reflect Louisiana's state bird, the brown pelican, and its association with the region's coastal culture.

The team's colors are navy blue, gold, and red. The Pelicans have made the playoffs multiple times throughout their history and have been led by stars such as Chris Paul, Anthony Davis, and currently Zion Williamson. The team has developed rivalries with other Southwest Division teams, particularly the Memphis Grizzlies and San Antonio Spurs.
